The Interaction
2020 - 2022
The Interaction is a photography project about the interaction between living humans and deceased animals.
This photographic series is my attempt to break down the barriers of the taboo of death, by asking others to interact and to hold these animal skulls. To capture these interactions, I use the ritualistic process of analogue photography. I take photographs on film rather than digital because I appreciate its tactility, consideration, and unique characteristics.
The word interaction means reciprocal communication or direct involvement with someone or something. My intention is that the people involved in these interactions will appreciate and gain some reverence for the dead.
This project is also about these past years of the global pandemic and our need to protect each other by a lack of interaction. This project will allow people to interact by creating something meaningful.
The main component of this project is the film photographs that capture these interactions. However, I have also created a complementary series of poems that discuss the participants’ and my feelings and thoughts behind the images.
